First Bridge Tournament a Success

Newbies Bridge Club’s First Tournament

Bridge players from around Auckland were welcomed to our first ever tournament today.

Tournament directors, Colin Hart and Mandy Wong, had been working hard to set up the rooms for the following bridge grades:

Restricted Pairs 8B
Junior/Intermediate Pairs
Open pairs (see grade results below).

Newbies President, John Smith, welcomed the competitors with a short history of the club and then introduced Club Manager, Claire Patterson to the group.  Claire explained her role at the club and encouraged everyone to ask her any questions about the club or the tournament.

Claire also explained the Club Rules and Club Etiquette to the competitors.

Morning tea was then served and a specially decorated cake was cut to celebrate the tournament.

John then took everyone through to room number 2 for the tournament.

40 of our own members competed in this open tournament along with 35 players from other Auckland clubs.  It was judged a success by all who participated.

This was the first tournament we have hosted since our grand opening two months ago and club members have been itching to welcome other bridge lovers to play at our club.

A big thank you goes to our bridge directors for the smooth running of the tournament. Another thank you goes to club members June Smith and Alison Jones who provided the delicious morning tea.  It was enjoyed by all.

We are pleased to announce that our bridge teams competed successfully today.

Congratulations to Jane Thomas and Mai Chang who got second place in the open part of the restricted pairs section.

Joy and John Tetter claimed the top position in the intermediate/Junior Pairs section and Debbie Turner’s excellent form continued when she and partner, Tim, combined to take second place in the open pairs section.
